Varieties: 100% Furmint
Harvest time: From early October until end of November 1999
Origin: Mád, Király
Character: Judges tasting notes of the 1999 Tokaj Essencia Gold Outstanding: Burnished copper in colour, light dances through this most attractive, alluring wine. The aromas are complex to describe, given the dizzying mix of sensations: partly fruity, quince jelly, but also culinary, caramel and toffee, with essences of orchard fruits. On the palate a further burst of intense flavours arrive, with lush chocolate-lime and key-lime flavours. It takes minutes to chew through the rich layers of hedonistic flavours in this wine, so intense and complex are they. At the regrettable end the flavour of this truly superb wine lingers for many minutes, a delightful reminiscence of its beauty and class. We don’t say it often but this wine is as close to perfection as you will ever seein a glass of wine. A world class luxury.
Soil: Weathered zeolite with crumbly pumic tuff. Volcanic reolite tuff, Hard tuff mixed with yellow and red clay.
Cellar technology: Hand-picked, noble-rot berries collected in large vats. Pressed under its own weight, minute amounts of free-run juice is later transferred to small barrels. Due to the extremely high sugar, slow fermentation was effected after a span of 14 years, reaching 3% alcohol
Storage: Constant temperature of 12.8°C and 80% humidity, in small glass bottles. Only 160 liters were made—numbered bottles.
Lifespan: Unlimited storage
Closure: Natural cork with red wax seal
Comments: Gold Outstanding IWSC 2018
